Distributed controls panel design and build for a next-generation thermal energy storage company

When Fourth Power needed a panel partner for a large-scale distributed controls system, they brought in Podium Automation. Podium completed four unique panel designs in 10 days and delivered six built-and-tested panels in five weeks with no commissioning delays.

Fourth Power is developing utility-scale thermal battery technology that stores excess renewable energy as heat and dispatches it back to the grid on demand. Their modular, scalable system is designed to grow with renewable deployment, and their control infrastructure needs to match.

When Fourth Power needed a panel partner for a large-scale distributed controls system, they brought in Podium Automation. The project required multiple panels built to a standardized layout while accommodating varying I/O requirements across each unit. Podium specified the PLC rack architecture, power distribution, and overcurrent protection from defined I/O requirements, and engineered all panels for reliable operation in high-temperature ambient conditions. Field wiring was terminated to panel-mounted M12 bulkheads for simplified installation and commissioning in the field.
